Hitachi Energy installed its first eco-friendly EconiQ 420-kV circuit-breaker for Eversource Energy, New England’s largest energy company. The groundbreaking technology replaces sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which is a potent greenhouse gas.
Eversource aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030, and replacing SF6 in its transmission system is a crucial part of this effort. The EconiQ 420 kV circuit-breaker is engineered to be as reliable as traditional SF6-based solutions.
This installation aligns with Eversource’s commitment to a cleaner energy future, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting global efforts to mitigate climate change. Hitachi Energy’s EconiQ technology, including other innovations like EconiQ Retrofill, is already being adopted in Europe, showcasing its reliability and scalability for high-voltage applications.
