USA, Tennessee: Super Micro Computer, a Fortune 500 Silicon Valley tech giant that manufactures high-efficiency servers and data centers, plans to expand into the Midwest and East Coast while mitigating costs from Trump’s tariffs, CEO Charles Liang said. The company recently partnered with xAI to build a data center in Tennessee.
Super Micro aims to move past financial challenges as it targets $40 B in revenue. CEO Charles Liang announced expansion plans beyond San Jose, including the Midwest, East Coast, and potential Middle East partnerships. He shared these updates at the HumanX AI conference in Las Vegas.
Liang highlighted the Memphis data center, noting that Super Micro assembles racks in San Jose for easy “plug-and-play” deployment. As a key player in the AI ecosystem, the company’s growth has paralleled rising demand from Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Founded in 1993 with just five employees, Super Micro is now a $23 B Fortune 500 company, with its servers featuring Nvidia’s sought-after GPUs. xAI Colossus cluster for Elon Musk’s Grok team features 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, according to a company case study.
Despite concerns following DeepSeek and China’s Manus AI, along with speculation about reduced spending, Liang believes the tech industry is simply stabilizing. However, he expects demand to keep rising over the next five to ten years as companies pursue more efficient, high-performance solutions.
“This AI boom has been very big, and AI now is so powerful,” said Liang. “But AI can be much more powerful, much faster, smarter, and more user-friendlz. There’s more room for AI to grow.”
Liang downplayed the impact of President Trump’s 25 % tariffs on steel and aluminium, noting that Super Micro’s U.S.-based operations help mitigate the effects. He also highlighted the company’s strong presence in Taiwan, where its key contract manufacturer, Ablecom, and distributor, Compuware, are based. Both companies are led by his brothers, Steve and Bill Liang.
