This development comes on the heels of the announcement that Great British Energy (GB Energy), the UK Government’s new publicly owned clean energy company, will be based in the city.

Sarens PSG, Scotland’s leading provider of specialist equipment and skilled workers for offshore wind farm projects, has committed to this significant investment. The new Centre of Excellence will be located in Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone at the Altens Industrial Estate and is expected to open its doors next year. This initiative will create 25 new jobs, bolstering the local economy and supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector.

Steve Clark, managing director of Sarens PSG, emphasised the importance of GB Energy’s presence in Aberdeen, calling it a “game-changer” for the city and the Scottish energy sector. He highlighted the need for a unified approach to accelerate offshore wind development, ensuring that all necessary resources—facilities, people, and expertise—are in place.

The decision to establish the training centre in Aberdeen was influenced by several factors, including:

1. GB Energy’s headquarters location
2. The £400 million South Harbour development
3. Other major offshore wind initiatives in the area

Clark stressed the critical role of the offshore wind sector in achieving net-zero targets, noting that progress has been slower than desired. He expressed optimism that with the support of GB Energy and other key players, there is now an opportunity to expedite the delivery of these projects and maintain Scotland’s position at the forefront of renewable energy development.
