India / Saudi Arabia / UAE: India is preparing to export electricity to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through long-distance subsea power cables, according to statements by the country’s power minister, Manohar Lal Khattar.

The project includes a 1,700-km subsea cable to Saudi Arabia at an estimated cost of $5.4 B (INR470 B), and a 1,400-km cable to the UAE, expected to cost $5 B (INR435 B). Both cables will facilitate the transmission of 2 GW of electricity to each country.

The initiative highlights India’s growing role in regional energy trade and its ambitions to become a cross-border power supplier. While the scale and cost of the projects have been outlined, no timeline has yet been provided for the start of construction.
