Ghana, Accra: The Accra Sub-Transmission Division of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commissioned 18 newly installed 33 kV switchgears at the Odorkor Primary Substation. This initiative is designed to significantly improve electricity reliability and service quality for more than 40,000 customers in Odorkor and neighboring areas.
Fully financed by ECG, the upgrade is expected to address persistent power interruptions in areas such as Sakaman, South Odorkor, Kwashieman, Official Town, parts of Dansoman, McCarthy Hill, Mallam, and Awoshie.
Beyond enhancing power supply, the new equipment also ensures safer working conditions for ECG personnel. The outdated panels previously in use posed operational hazards and had become increasingly unreliable after fourteen years of service.
Francis K. Atsyatsya, General Manager of ECG’s Sub-transmission operations in Accra, highlighted the project as a major step in ECG’s ongoing mission to provide secure and consistent electricity across the region. He stressed that the modernization was long overdue, driven by both efficiency and safety needs.
Looking forward, Atsyatsya revealed that more improvement projects are planned and emphasized the importance of public cooperation. He encouraged customers to stay engaged and fulfill their payment obligations to enable ECG to continue investing in infrastructure upgrades.
The switchgear commissioning marks a critical milestone in ECG’s broader strategy to modernize its network in response to growing energy demands and ensure sustainable service delivery.
